Chicago is steeped in blues history. But at this year’s Lollapalooza, it’s going to get a sweet taste of the future of the genre, served up by Tupelo, Miss.’s Homemade Jamz Blues Band. Comprised of siblings Ryan Perry (15), Kyle Perry (13) and Taya Perry (9), this trio from Tupelo, Miss., finished second in the band category at the 2007 International Blues Challenge, competing against nearly 100 “adult” bands. Ryan picked up his dad’s guitar when he was 8 and was writing original tunes within a week. After two years of formal lessons, he started performing solo with a drum machine until his brother Kyle (two years younger) joined on bass and, soon after, their 7-year-old sister on drums. They’ve since played at festivals and clubs nationwide and even jammed onstage with the legendary B.B. King. Homemade Jamz’ debut CD, Pay Me No Mind, will be released by NorthernBlues Music in June.
